OPEN LETTER TO THE TFL

For those that do not live in London and cannot know what TFL stands for it is the Transport Federation of London.

 

Occasionally they put up various posters for a variety of reasons that may range from special offers to the ticket holders to warnings about prosecuting passengers harassing their personnel. It is their job to do it, to inform the public about their policies, etc. I will stand in one of them that occasionally appear which states ��We will prosecute anybody that harasses our personnel and that CCTV images will be used as evidence��.

 

What�s wrong about that? Nothing and I do believe that we are all in favor of that as nobody would like to be harassed doing his work. However since they know their rights and hold us responsible when we breach them they should have another that should handle the complains of us against their personnel. They are not above the law and in some cases some of them act in a way which is not acceptable or proper.

 

Example that happened a few weeks ago. Traveling at Victoria line towards walthamstow we find ourselves stuck inside a tunnel outside kings cross for 30 minutes given the ��usual excuses�� from the driver which nobody believes anyhow. After all this waiting we finally move and told that the train will terminate there. Nothing wrong with that. We are used to their delays and suspensions and and and�

 

The moment the train (half of it) enters the platform and the doors open one of the platform personnel comes outside the carriage and banging on it starts shouting ��GET OUT, THIS TRAIN STOPS HERE�� in a tone of voice that you would associate with a prison warden or a cattle handler. He did not stop there as he kept shouting in the same voice until we were all out. At the same time somebody else was saying go take other train to reach your destinations. Information given if Victoria line was totally or partially suspended and which stations were open? NIL. Staff attitude towards the passengers? Below the average.

 

That certain day I wanted to go home because I had a good reason to arrive early, not that I did anyway thanks to the excellent system that they are running. But the next time something like that happens I will stay and file a complain right there and then and if the response I will receive is not satisfactory I will exercise MY rights and press charges for harassment. After all we pay for their salaries and they are there to serve the public. Year after year the prices go up and the service goes down. When this will stop? We pay and we demand service. If they cannot offer it then they better stay home and let somebody else to do it.

 

Another point relevant to the use of CCTV. Since they say they have it why they donot use it to track down pickpockets? Just a thought�..

 

I do not expect any reply from TFL, they never replied to my email regarding the problem (how to make online payment when you go to their page and they ask you about information that there were never requested by them, and to be more specific password given on your application when I never did any application or asked to provide one) I had with my Oyster card and after they urge everybody to use it. I still use mine although the problem I had was never solved but I do not have an alternative.

 

Well I just dream the day I will say no more and find an alternative method of transport and will not have to deal with them anymore.
